Servant of the High Priest
Malchus
The high priest's servant whose ear Peter cut off during Jesus's arrest, which Jesus then healed.
Life and work
Malchus is named only in John's Gospel as a servant of the high priest present at Jesus's arrest in Gethsemane. When Peter drew a sword and struck him, cutting off his right ear, Jesus rebuked Peter and (in Luke's account) healed the ear (John 18:10, Luke 22:50-51).
Extra-biblical evidence
No extra-biblical record of Malchus survives outside the Gospels.
