UP-er ROOM · Modern The Cenacle, Mount Zion, Jerusalem · 31.7718° N, 35.2290° E

The Cenacle on Mount Zion is the traditional site of the Last Supper, where Jesus instituted the Eucharist with his disciples (Mark 14:12-26), and of the Holy Spirit's descent on believers at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4).

Archaeology

The upper-floor Gothic hall visitors see today is a medieval Crusader-to-Mamluk-era structure, variously dated between the 12th and 14th centuries. A 4th-century pilgrim account describes an earlier structure on the hill, but no archaeological remains directly confirm the room's use as the actual room of the Last Supper — the identification rests on continuous but unverifiable tradition.

In the upper room, Jesus washed feet — the task nobody volunteered for — what is the unwanted task in front of you?
