Ancestor in the genealogy of David and Jesus
Ram
RAM
A son of Hezron and father of Amminadab, known only from genealogical lists linking the line of Perez to David and, in Matthew's Gospel, to Jesus.
Life and work
Ram appears solely in genealogical records as the son of Hezron and father of Amminadab, part of the line running from Judah's son Perez down to David (Ruth 4:19; 1 Chronicles 2:9-10). No episode or deed of Ram is recorded in Scripture. Matthew's Greek genealogy of Jesus renders his name as 'Aram' rather than 'Ram' (Matthew 1:3-4), a variant spelling of the same figure rather than a reference to the region of Aram (ancient Syria) that appears elsewhere in the Bible.
Extra-biblical evidence
No extra-biblical source or narrative episode exists for Ram; he is attested only in biblical genealogical lists.
